Bipod's:

AR15 Bipod's

For about as long as I can remember there was one brand of bipod and that was Harris Bipod's. That's not to say there weren't other brands available they just weren't as well know or as readily available. The Harris Bipod's were what you saw in gun shops, catalogs and magazines. In 2009 its a different story. The current tactical rifle popularity teamed up with the resources of Google and the internet shows me that there's several manufacturers making very high quality tactical and precision rifle oriented bipod's. Below you will see the bipod's that I have tracked down. As of writing this my first hand experience resides solely with Harris but that will soon change as I select possible two different units for upcoming builds at this site and 308ar.com. As usual if anyone has information, reviews and pictures we would like to hear from you. Feel free to contact us.

I will provide links to the manufacturers as well as purchasing sources. Here's a link to Brownells main bipod page.

GG&G Tactical Bipods
Info

A bipod has been a common weapon accessory for over 100 years. Tactical bipods that can be folded and quickly extended are common today in the urban combat setting on small and large caliber weapons. GG&G started manufacturing a rifle bipod five years ago. When the ARMY needed tactical bipods for their M16 weapon system, GG&G submitted their standard duty bipod for consideration. Out of all of the rifle bipods submitted to the US Army and after nine months of extensive testing, the US Army selected the GG&G rifle bipod, specifically the GG&G XDS Bipod NSN: 1005-01-563-0152, to outfit approximately 75,000 US Army precision shooters. On many of those M16 weapon systems the bipod mount that will be used is the GG&G Under Forearm Integrated Rail, or forward rail bracket. NSN: 1005-01-541-2476. To date GG&G has supplied the US Army over 150,000 of these units with another 275,000 forthcoming.

To meet the bipod requirements of those shooters with a heavier weapon system, GG&G is now offering its heavy duty bipod, the Heavy Duty XDS Bipod. Built to handle the weight and recoil of .50 caliber semi autos and bolt guns, the Heavy Duty XDS Bipod is designed and built to withstand the rigors of combat. Military bipods with swivels are ideal for M4, M-16, and AR-15 users who want to improve long accuracy and flexibility from changing fire positions. In addition to the military, tactical officers and SWAT teams can use these rifle bipods for greater effectiveness and less exposure in varying situations.

Extreme Duty Bipod

The re-designed GG&G Extreme Duty Bipod with swiveling capability now offers a greater range than previous versions. In addition to a stronger pivot mechanism, the new folding AR-15 bipod design affords 25 degrees of cant in either direction of center. Not only does this increase better rough terrain adjustability, but this pivoting capability allows the deployed bipod leg to be used as a vertical foregrip if required for rapid transition. In addition, a tension mechanism and adjustment knob has been added so that the operator does not need tools to make tension adjustments to the swivel.

The GG&G Tactical Bipod for the AR15 and M16 is specifically designed and manufactured to meet current military requirements. It is exceptionally rugged. It will not only withstand extreme environmental conditions from -55 degrees Fahrenheit to +155 degrees Fahrenheit, but be operational under those conditions. With the bipod legs deployed it will withstand the military's three foot drop test onto a concrete floor while mounted to an AR15/M16 or M4 carbine and maintain full battle capability.

Manufactured from aircraft grade 6061 T6 aluminum alloy with extreme duty connection points and fasteners, this quick detach swiveling bipod is still remarkably lightweight at only 11.5 oz.

Features include a 7" to 9.5" height adjustment when measured from the dovetail attachment, silent deployment, fully adjustable legs with thumbnut adjustments and grip tight foot pads. All of the AR15 rifle bipod's aluminum parts are bead blasted and Type III hard coat anodized per mil-spec in a non- reflective matte black combat finish. The quick-release bipod is equipped with a MIL-STD-1913 rail adapter that does not require tools for installation. GG&G's gun bipod will also attach to any rifle with a 6 o'clock under barrel MIL-STD-1913 or Weaver type rail.

Manufactured from aircraft grade 6061 T6 aluminum alloy with extreme duty connection points and fasteners, this swiveling bipod is still remarkably lightweight at only 17 oz.

Features include a 8" to 10.5" height adjustment when measured from the dovetail attachment, silent deployment, fully adjustable legs with thumbnut adjustments, and grip tight foot pads. Bobro Bipods

The bipod utilizes Patent Pending CTM (Collapsing Triangle Mechanism) technology to permit deployment without the requirement of control manipulation such as buttons etc. The bipod is deployed by pulling the legs rearward fully until the claw within the clawbox applies pressure to the clawbox post. A conical interface applies constant and even pressure to ensure that the bipod remains positively locked and cannot collapse without Operator input. Having the bipod lock securely and not collapse is the most important feature, and is much safer than a design that permits collapse without dedicated intent. To collapse the bipod, depress the claw pivot and start pushing the leg(s) forward. Once the leg(s) start forward travel, the claw pivot button is released.

GRIP POD SYSTEMS Grip Pod

Grip Pod Systems is the largest weapon stabilization system for small arms in use with the U.S. Armed forces. Approximately four years ago, the U.S. Army at Picatinny Arsenal tested all known bipods in open competition for use on the m16a2, m16m4, and m16a4, in CQB, Medium, and Long range Applications. The Patented Grip Pod prevailed as a strong, dual purpose vertical foregrip and bipod in one small light package. It deployed with the push of a button and enabled the soldier to engage the enemy with speed and accuracy never before thought possible.

GRIP POD SYSTEMS Grip Pod

Currently the Grip Pod is tested and totally adopted by the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. National Guard, British Army, multiple special operations groups, FBI, DEA, and many other federal and state law enforcement agencies. It attaches to the M4 Carbine and M16 rifle series of weapons via MIL-STD 1913 interface. To learn more about the Grip Pod, visit www.grippod.com or email info@grippod.com to find out how to get one for your weapon system.

Keng's Firearms Versa-Pod

Versa-Pod is consistently recognized as the top choice amongst bipods by experts in the industry. The Versa-pod is a bipod based on the Parker-Hale design often seen on higher end sniper systems. Made of aircraft aluminum it is sturdy, stable and compact. For the tactical environment one would choose the nine to thirteen inch model. There is also a 13 to 23 inch model that should serve the varmint shooter well. The Versa-pod comes with two main components. The bi-pod legs and a Moulded handstop. The feet are available with two types contact points; either non-skid rubber feet or metal plates similar to the Parker-Hale. The leg height is adjusted via a series of notches spaced about 1/4 inch apart on each leg. The legs are not spring loads for retraction. You set the height by pulling out the leg to the desired notch and the spring-loaded catch locks the leg in place. To retract the leg you must press the catch and push the inner leg back up into outer tube. The legs are brought into the storage or carry position by simply squeezing them together and rotating them forward. They are held in place by spring tension exerted against the swivel block. Simple and clean with no projecting springs, plates or projections. The handstop serves as the mounting interface with the rifle. A delightfully simple set-up involving attaching the stop to a sling swivel stud and finger tightening a knurled screw. A new sling swivel is provided beneath the handstop. There is a prong protruding from the front of the handstop to which the bi-pod legs attach and swivel. A locking lever on the bi-pod's swivel block allows the easy removal of the legs for storage, leaving the handstop attached to the rifle stock. This also allows the user to replace the short legs with the long set with minimal time or fuss.
